Benjamin Button Leads Oscar Nominees

Romantic fantasy "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" led the Oscar contenders announced today (Thursday, Jan 22, 2009) with 13 nominations, among them Best Picture and acting honours for Brad Pitt (pictured below) and Taraji P. Henson, and a directing slot for David Fincher.

"Slumdog Millionaire" lived up to its rags-to-riches theme, coming in second with 10 nominations, including a directing spot for Danny Boyle and two of the three song slots.

As expected, Heath Ledger received a Supporting Actor nomination for "The Dark Knight" on the one-year anniversary of his death but the Batman movie was shut out from other top categories such as Best Picture and Director.

Am shocked there is no nom for Nolan & Aronofsky for Best Director, none for 'The Wrestler' or 'The Dark Knight' for Best Pic and that The Boss was not nominated for Best Song.

The Oscar voters are known more for their controversy than consistency. And it is a known tradition that they snub popular hits like Dark Knight. Thanks for responding, Arivind. All the best for your movies. Stay in touch.
