Writers Guild Picks Inception and Social Network

FEB 6, 2011 - Christopher Nolan's Inception and Aaron Sorkin's The Social Network won top screenplay honours at the Writers Guild of America awards held at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles last night.

Nolan (left) won the Best Original Screenplay beating the scripts for Black Swan, The Fighter, The Kids Are All Right and Please Give. The King's Speech and Another Year — Academy Award nominees for Best Original Screenplay — were not eligible in the WGA category under guild rules.

Sorkin's (right) script bested those for 127 Hours, I Love You Phillip Morris, The Town and True Grit in the Adapted Screenplay category. Other Oscar nominees such as Toy Story 3 and Winter's Bone were ineligible in the category under guild rules.

These awards are definitely a boost for the winners in the Oscar race in which the results will be announced on Feb 27.

The Writers Guild also gave awards in TV categories, and the top two honours went to Mad Men for Best TV drama series writing and Modern Family for Best TV comedy series.
